Binalud Mountains : ウィキペディア英語版 | Binalud Mountains The Binalud Mountains or the Binalud Range ((ペルシア語:بینالود) - ''Bīnālūd'') is a mountain range that runs in a northwest-southeast direction between the Mashhad and Nishapur regions in Razavi Khorasan Province in norteastern part of Iran and southeast of the Caspian Sea. Although far from the Aladagh Mountains lying in the northwest in the North Khorasan Province, the Binalud Mountains are located in a way that both the Alaladagh Mountains and the Binalud Range almost lie in the same arc that runs in a curved northwest-southeast direction. The city of Mashhad or Meshed is located in the southeastern part of the Binalud Range, and the city of Nishapur or Neyshabur lies on the southwestern section of the range.〔Microsoft Encarta World Atlas, 2001, Microsoft Corporation〕 Situated in the southeastern part of the Binalud Range and with an elevation of 3211 metres, Mount Binalud is the highest point in the Binalud Mountains and in Razavi Khorasan Province. ==Geology== The mountain range was formed mainly in the Miocene and the pliocene during the Alpine orogeny and is made predominantly of Triassic and Jurassic rocks, with chiefly Jurassic rocks in the northwestern part and a smaller portion of Paleozoic rocks in the western section. On the southern margin of the range and along the same northwest-southeast direction, there is a strip of Eocene rocks. In the northwestern side of this strip there is another section of Eocene rocks that are volcanic in origin.〔Geological Map of Iran, National Geoscience Database of Iran, www.ngdir.ir〕 The well-known Nishabur turquoise comes from the weathered and broken trachytes and andesites of the Eocene volcanic rocks of this part of the mountain range. The main turquoise mines are situated about 50 kilometres northwest of the city of Nishapur in the vicinity of a village called Madan. The mountains form part of the faulting resulting from the collision of the Arabian plate with the Eurasian plate.〔http://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1029/2012TC003183/abstract〕 The range takes up the motion of Central Iran on the Arabian plate at the rate of per year.〔http://www.researchgate.net/publication/233777161_The_Binalud_Mountains_A_key_piece_for_the_geodynamic_puzzle_of_NE_Iran〕
